NYC AERIAL POLE ART COMPETITION 2015

ELLAVATIONS will be hosting NYC's first outdoors public Pole Art competition in New York City in the summer of 201?.

Talented performers will compete for a grand prize and the chance to represent pole dancers as pole dance artists in NYC in a never before seen competition showcasing pole dance in a stunning new light. To cease the stigma behind pole dance, competitors will choreograph ethereal masterpieces that capture the beauty of passion, strength, dance, and creative expression as Ellavations Aerial Pole Art.

One of the most controversial forms of dance, “pole dancing,” will catch the attention of mass viewers. This competition will be the epitome of pole dance exhibition called “Ellavations” and the performers are the artists. Today, some may perceive pole dance with disapproval and distaste. The negative connotation behind pole dance is still present but those who have seen it or practiced it far from “strip clubs” knows this stigma is far from the truth. Pole dancers who have fallen in love with the pole strongly agree that pole dance is so much more than just dancing around a pole. Pole dancers are eager to show the world the mesmerizing beauty of pole dancing as an elevated art. Pole dancers will create an exhibition with their bodies, the pole, and imagination. A new breed of “exotic dancers” exists, also known as pole artists, who perform aerial acrobatics with extraordinary athleticism and ELLAVATIONS Aerial Pole Art will prove it. 

Auditions will be held to select talented and creative pole dancers with enough passion, strength, and endurance to compete from around the country. Females/males, solo, duos, and/or group performers will be welcomed. The performers will be encouraged to execute never-before-seen gravity-defying, aerial stunts with extreme imagination. In front of a panel of judges composed of professional pole dancers and pole fitness instructors, celebrity judges and a live studio audience, performers will attempt to outperform their competitors by choreographing unique works of dance art on the pole while pushing to remove the stigma behind pole dancing and represent pole dance artists in NYC.

This reality-based competition will begin with the search for the most talented pole dancers or aspiring pole dance artists. This competition will be hosted by a celebrity with familiarity of pole dance that has either practiced pole dancing or has witnessed pole dance in a refined manner and appreciates pole dance as an art form.

After auditions are held, performers will be narrowed down to a select few. This group will continue on in the season and have the opportunity to win the grand prize. 

After having established the select few performers to compete, each week will call for a new routine with specific challenges that must be included and executed in their routine. Standards and requirements for each challenge will intensify each performance. Competitors will perform on standard professional grade 50mm poles on either static, spinning poles, or both. As the week’s progress each performer(s) will encounter specific challenges that will gradually become more difficult and range including the following but will not be limited to(in no specific order):

1.            Perform routine executing specific stunts (ex. walking on air, death drops, one-handed spins, no handed spins, etc.)

2.            Perform a specific “team and theme” routine with the challenge to convey a story (ex. Romeo and Juliet, Black Swan, The Little Mermaid, Jekyll and Hyde, etc.)

3.            Perform to a specific song genre/song choice. (Ex. Classical music, Electronic music, Tribal music etc.)

4.            The use of imagination to work with special lighting effects to intensify their routine.

5.            The use of specific props.

6.            Creating optical illusions on the pole.

7.            Performing a routine on the pole in the middle of a body of water and never being able to touch the water.

8.            Perform on an elevated pole that moves around the stage.

9.            Perform a routine consisting of combo-moves.

10.         Perform a routine blind folded.

11.         Perform the "Ultimate Routine" which will execute performers’ own talent and imagination.

Guest appearances will be made by professional pole dancers throughout the season to inspire and motivate competitors. In addition, it will give credit and exposure to professional accredited pole dancers who have been in the business for years and stand behind pole dance as an art.

Ellavations will promote pole dance in a positive light and maybe even inspire people to try pole dancing. Ellavations NYC Aerial Pole Art Competition 2015 will be a family friendly exhibition both men and women, and people of all ages will fall in love with. NYC will witness the journey, dedication, passion, and creativity as each performer’s story develops. The unique obstacles and tests these performers will endure will captivate the hearts & mind's of viewers, ultimately gaining a new found respect for pole dancers everywhere.
